SPOTLIGHT ON COCK & BULL PUBLIC HOUSE – A STOP ON RIVERSIDE FOOD TOUR’S MAINSTRASSE VILLAGE FOOD TOUR
By Laura Noyes, Owner of Riverside Food Tours, April 10, 2017
Cock & Bull Public House has been a staple of Covington’s Mainstrasse Village since 1999. It’s know for having 60+ craft and local brews on tap and some think of it as the King of Greater Cincinnati’s craft beer bars. Cock & Bull also has an extensive wine assortment and a very popular Mainstrasse Reuben Sandwich! Their Pint nights (you keep the pint glass) and Bloody Mary Bar (with all the right trimmings) are also a hit. You can order a “flight of beer” to sample different beers in smaller glasses. The success they have had in Mainstrasse Village has allowed them to open more local locations in Glendale Village (2008), Hyde Park Square (2011), and Clifton (2017).
The food samplings on this tour are ample for lunch and include a wide variety of dishes to please very guest. Each tasting is served from a locally-owned and operated restaurant which takes pride in utilizing Kentucky Proud products and supporting nearby farms and businesses.
Some of the tastings you will enjoy may include German Bavarian pretzels with homemade beer cheese dip, local craft beer from one of the numerous local breweries, a gourmet chili cheese hotdog featuring a Tex-Mex style chili made with Cincinnati goetta, assorted slices of a signature pizza, assorted cheese and wine pairing and a homemade seasonal dessert served with a generous cup of Ethiopian coffee or tea.
Between the great tastings, you’ll stroll as locals do – through the sixth street promenade, and hear stories about the German immigrants, getting a glimpse of what life was like in the early 19th century. You’ll hear fascinating tales of local legends and folklore dating from our early settlers through the recent revival of this iconic neighborhood.
